Research Festival Information

The 2024 51Ƶ Research Festival runs from 20th-22nd May 2024.

Keynote Speech:
Monday 20th May, 2024, London Campus.
Professor Anne-Wil Harzing, Middlesex University London.

"Ask, Believe, Cultivate - Adjust, Balance, Create - Amplify, Bridge, Contribute. The ABC of navigating academia across career stages."

Drawing on her 35 years of experience of working in academia, Professor Anne-Wil Harzing shares her ideas on how to navigate the sometimes choppy waters of academia. Her presentation covers early, mid, and late career stages, and shows how our priorities (should) change over.

About the keynote speaker:

Anne-Wil is a Professor of International Management at Middlesex University London and the editor of the Journal Quality List. She is an expert in matters concerning journal quality and research performance metrics. Anne-Wil has authored over 170 publications and is listed among the top 50 most cited academics in Business & Management in Scopus. Additionally, she has been recognized as one of the top 1% most cited academics in Economics & Business worldwide by Thomson Reuters' Essential Science Indicators since 2007.

Get to know our Guest Speaker

Dr Helen Young

Head of Research Policy and Information, University of Strathclyde

With a PhD in History and a background in international development policy and advocacy, Helen has worked in research management since 2016 and is currently Head of Research Policy and Information at the University of Strathclyde. She is responsible for a broad portfolio of work including Research Excellence Framework (REF) management, research integrity and ethics, open research, research culture, responsible research assessment, research systems and research information visualisation and reporting.

Having facilitated Strathclyde to become an early adopter of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (ARRA) and member of the associated Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) in 2022, Helen co-authored and acts as the institutional representative. In addition, Helen is a member of the Scottish REF Managers Group and Vitae Policy Advisory Group, co-champions the Association for Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) REF Special Interest Group, and actively engages with various sector networks, including the Scottish Research Integrity Network (SRIN) and UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN).
